Take a Tokyo River Cruise and enjoy the view from SUMIDA river

1 Starting from Asakusa- Sumida River cruise- discover Tokyo from the waters

2 Sumida River Cruise- detail, price, location, etc.

3 Views from Sumida River Cruise

4 Hamarikyu Gardens- enjoy the beautiful garden

5 Lunch spot- recommendation of Japanese restaurant nearby, with an amazing view

1 Starting from Asakusa

You are bound to visit ASAKUSA 浅草 and the famous Kaminarimon 雷門 especially if it is your first time in Tokyo.  Go early in the morning, as it gets really crowded.  Enjoy the many shops as you walk towards the shrine.

2 Sumida River Cruise-detail, price, location

If the weather is good, then take the river cruise, TOKYO CRUISE, from Asakusa to Hamrikyu garden and enjoy a lesuiry stroll.

The TOKYO CRUISE operates about 15 times per day, depending on the season and has several routes.  Asakura, Hamarikyu, Odaiba, Toyosu, etc. are stops.

I recommend the Asakusa to Hamarikyu trip, about 30 minutes. (Y980, including admission to the garden)  Your ship will run below 13 bridges while you can get a great view of Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge and so on.   The explanation is basically in Japanese, poiting out key scenary in other language.  So it would be nice to have your guide, if possible.

Otherwise, you can refer to the pamphlet, which has English translation.

Here, we board the cruise.  Only two minutes from Asakusa station.

3 Views from the Sumida River Cruise

Skyscrapers and Sumida River.

Lots of bridges.

Rainbow Bridge in the distance.

4 Recommended destination – Hamarikyu Gardens, beatiful Japanese garden

First a family garden of Tokugawa Shoguns (1603-1868), it functioned as a outer fort for the Edo Castle.  Its ponds use seawater, leading to a mixture of marine life in its ponds.  It also had duck hunting grounds.

After the Meiji Restoration (when the throne was returned to the imperial family), it belonged to the Imperial Family, who then donated it to the City of Tokyo.

Enjoy the impressive pine trees and the surrounding view of the skyscrapers.

There is a tea house, where you can enjoy Japanese tea with sweet.

5 Recommended lunch spot nearby- Japanese restaurant with an amazing view

After enjoying the garden, why not have lunch/dinner in Shiodome, where you have lots of choices.  My recommendation is Hibiki, a Japanese restaurant on the 46th floor of Caretta Shiodome.  (lunch Y1500- and Dinner Y5000-, so reasonable and good quality.)  Enjoy the fantastic view!
