Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum in Sakurashinmachi, Tokyo- home to the creator of SAZAE-SAN.

 

Do you know Sazae-san?  Japanese manga (comic) series, started in 1946 by Machiko Hasegawa.  She continued until 1974.  TV animation based on this series began in 1969 and continues till this day!  (Sunday, Fuji TV, 18:30-)  Winner of Guinness world Record for the longest running TV animation series!

SAZAE-SAN is the creator`s image of modern Japanese family post WWII.  It centers around a happy family who appreciates the little joys of everyday ordinary life in Japan.

Though not widely known overseas, it is known to every Japanese and is a great way to learn about a typical Japanese traditional household.

At the museum, there is a room for Sazae-san related display, plus a history of how it came to be.  (only in Japanese).

Also, they have special seasonal exhibitions.  Anime Sazae san exhibition on July 14th, 2018-August 26th, 2018 would be the perfect timing to go, as this is dedicated to the fans of Sazae san!

7 minutes walk from the metro station, Sakurashinmachi.  The whole area has statues and posters of Sazae san.
