It all depends on the season, but everyone loves to pick fresh fruits, especially Japanese cherries (May-June) and Japanese strawberries (Jan-Mar)!   Grapes/persimmon in the fall.

1 Fruit picking in Yamanashi Prefecture-” Fruit Kingdom” of Japan

Yamanashi Prefecture produces the most fruits in Japan and is known as the “Fruit Kingdom”.  Grapes, peach, and plums are the specialities.  In the spring, in Kofu plains in Yamanashi, beautiful flowers from the peach trees cover the area.  From spring to fall, lots of fruits are in season.  Lots of Japanese as well as foreign travellers come to Yamanashi to enjoy the fruits.

 

Yamanashi Prefecture is right next to Tokyo, on the West, and is easy to access.

2 Where should you go in Yamanashi to enjoy fruit picking?

• 2.1 Fujiya Hotel and Yamanashi Fuefukigawa Fruits Park

 

I recommend YAMANASHI FUEFUKIGAWA FRUITS PARK.  There is a nice hotel FUJIYA HOTEL in the park, if you are staying overnight.  It has hot spring/onsen, great view, and delicious restaurant.  As part of the famous Fujiya Hotel chain, this hotel is very good.

From there, you can go to the nearby orchards to pick the fruits.  Great way to spend 1-2 days.

• 2.2 Access and Location

Most convenient is to rent a car, as it is less than 2 hours drive from Tokyo.  However, you can also take the train from Shinjuku and use the bus/taxi.  Also, the hotel car will pick you up from the station, if reserved in advance.

The view from the hotel is excellent!
